The two may have been configured exclusively for the Mac platform but they don’t do the same thing. They differ in a variety of ways so it’s just logical to compare both programs so that Mac users can pick one that suits their needs.

SecureMac’s MacScan 2.7 is cheaper compared to Intego VirusBarrier X6. MacScan 2.7 retails for $29.99 and comes with volume discounts for multiple purchases while the VirusBarrier X6 is priced at $49.95 for two licenses and $69.95 for five respectively. The MacScan 2.7 operates on PowerPC-based machines or Intel with Mac OS X 10.5 and up while its counterpart runs on the same platform with the addition of Snow Leopard–that still needs an Intel processor to operate. In terms of protection, both are configured differently but produce almost identical results. Both protect Mac users from mac and viruses, malware, spyware, Trojans, and can even be used to track cookies and delete browser histories and caches. Though both programs are outstanding in terms of speed and efficiency, the VirusBarrier X6 is slightly better as it is more extensive and it does more.

Mac and VirusesVirusBarrier X6 might be more comprehensive than MacScan 2.7 but in terms of functionality and usability, it can be complicated to Mac and viruses user. MacScan 2.7 is relatively easy to use as its interface is similar to that of Mac’s. On the other hand, VirusBarrier X6 can be annoying to some since its configuration is unusual and could be a bit complicated at first use. It’s not as user friendly and could be problematic at first but it could be managed. With constant use anyone would be accustomed to its unconventional interface.

All in all, both security software/programs are outstanding as both are made by companies that streamlined their products to tend to Mac users’ unique needs. Both give excellent protection against malicious programs such as Mac malwares and worms. The VirusBarrier X6 offers a much more extensive protection but MacScan 2.7 is cheaper and convenient to use. It really just comes down to a person’s preference. Both companies offer free trials so it’s ideal to test the products first to know which one fits you best.
